Current accounts continue to be one of the most competitive areas of the market and are a great way for savers to boost their overall returns.
So, it was no surprise that Santander has cut the interest rate on its popular 123 Current Account from today. Customers with balances between £3,000 and £20,000 have seen their rate halve from 3% to 1.50% AER. While the rates have been reduced, the revised rate remains competitive, though it is some way behind Nationwide's FlexDirect Current Account at 5% AER. It is worth noting that many current accounts allow you to take advantage of the high returns on offer without having to switch your main account. With rates of at least 3% AER on offer, a new current account may be worth looking into. The top rates on offer at the moment are 5% AER from Nationwide, 5% AER (falling to 3% in January 2017) from TSB Bank and 3% AER from both Tesco Bank and Bank of Scotland.
